We started noticing Kallfelz wines a couple of years ago. These fleshy dry Rieslings seemed to pop up on winelists wherever we were eating on the Mosel between Reil and Merl. Not least in the Driesch-Hütte, a quirky hilltop hut with an exceptional view above the vineyards of Pündericher Marienburg. They hoist a flag to signal to the valley that they are open. It’s a welcome place for hikers and walkers to stop for a simple bread, sausage and cheese lunch. And, naturally, a delicious chilled bottle of crisp Kallfelz Riesling.
June 2026 – it was high time to visit the Kallfelz cellar in Merl and taste through the range. Every wine was expressive in the nose and vibrant. Dry, yes – also succulent. How do they do that?
